Target has settled for $6M with the National Federation of the Blind in defense of its class-action lawsuit over accessibility of the Target website and web site design to blind users. The court settlement requires that blind guests using screen-reader software on Target.com must be able to “acquire the same information and engage in the same transactions as are available to sighted guests.” NFB will certify the Target Web site through its Nonvisual Accessibility Web Certification program once the agreed upon improvements are completed. If you are a web designer, Web 2.0 CO, project manager in a marketing or media department, advertising agency creative, or attorney for an online retailer — now’s the time to get quickly up to speed on the ADA and legal requirements for website accessibility — they’re here to stay.
